Chipper Jones' Injured Knee Took Place Before Retirement Announcement

Stay connected for news and updates

As everyone planned a great send-off season for Chipper Jones, it has quickly turned into more a tragedy as we learn that Jones' knee injury took place just an hour prior to him having the retirement announcement on Thursday afternoon.

The future Hall-of-Famer will now begin his swan song on the disabled list, possibly opening the door for the Braves to look at some late additions to their roster as we approach the beginning of the regular season.

Going somewhat unnoticed because of the talk surrounding Jones, Freddie Freeman was hit by a pitch yesterday in the left hand, however it appears he is good to go and was in today's lineup for the game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Mark Bowman, the Braves beat writer, blogged about Jones' trip to the disabled list on Saturday morning at MLBlogs.
