Braves Trade Rumors: Team Reluctant To Include Kris Medlen In Any Deal

The Atlanta Braves are being mentioned in several trade possibilities late in spring training, given their need for both outfield and infield depth. The loss of Chipper Jones for a few weeks (and his durability in general) has the team searching for some depth, but Fox Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi says the team is not hip to trading Kris Medlen if they don’t have to.

Medlen is a prime piece for many teams to ask for given his versatility, but that’s what Morosi says the Braves love. Given the Braves’ pitching depth, it makes sense to deal a player like Medlen who is not an anchor in the rotation nor one of the team’s live arms from the minors. However, his ability to pitch in any circumstance — whether long relief or a spot start — is rare, given his consistency.

That said, you have to give something to get something. If the Braves are serious about bolstering the roster, Medlen could be in play. If so, he’s likely to find a permanent home on a lesser pitching staff in the starting rotation.
