Atlanta Braves Set Tentative Starting Rotation, Tommy Hanson To Start Opening Day

The Atlanta Braves are yet to announce their official starting rotation order for the 2012 season, but everything is starting to take shape from Spring Training camp. News came on Saturday morning that Tommy Hanson would be the Opening Day starter against the Mets, and he would be followed by Jair Jurrjens, who would then be in line to make pitch in the home opener on April 13.

Fredi Gonzalez has also hinted that Mike Minor will start in the opening series of the season, likely meaning he will take the mound on Sunday, April 8 in New York.

As for Julio Teheran and Randall Delgado, whichever pitcher earns the No. 5 spot in the rotation will start either April 10 or 11 against the Astros. The club has an off-day on the 6th, meaning Gonzalez could potentially skip one of their starts for a day and let Hanson pitch another game before handing the ball to one of his young prospects.

Your other likely starters for the home opening series against the Brewers: Minor and Beachy.

Again, none of this is official other than Hanson and Jurrjens starting the first two games of the season, but this looks like the rotation to begin the year.

As for Tim Hudson, the veteran is aiming for a return in the final week of April against the Pirates. He is currently recovering from back surgery.
