Brian McCann Injury: Braves' Catcher Hopeful For Monday Return

Stay connected for news and updates

The Atlanta Braves took a sigh of relief on Saturday when Brian McCann woke up and felt better after he suffered a ribcage injury on a throw to second base during Friday's game. McCann missed a part of the 2011 season with a strained oblique but this injury isn't thought to be anywhere near as serious. That didn't stopMcCann and the Braves from being cautious.

"I don't like not being in there, but I learned my lesson last year that you go on the DL with an oblique for 3 ½ weeks to a month, it's going to take you two months to get back," McCann said. "So I was being cautious and hopefully in a couple days I'll be ready to go."

David Ross got the start for the Braves on Saturday and is expected to also on Sunday. McCann is hopeful that he might be able to return to action on Sunday for the series finale with the Pirates.
