Eric O'Flaherty Sitting Out A Few Days With Sore Elbow

The Atlanta Braves are expecting to be without reliever Eric O'Flaherty while he deals with soreness in his pitching elbow.

Some might have been wondering where reliever Eric O'Flaherty was Tuesday night during the eighth inning as the Braves were blowing a four run lead in a 6-4 loss to the Yankees. O'Flaherty has been called on as the setup man of late but is out of action for a few days after experiencing soreness in his pitching elbow on Monday. That has manager Fredi Gonzalez trying to reduce his workload and giving him a little extra time to recover.

"It may be three, four more days we'll try to stay away from him," Gonzalez said.

Jonny Venters didn't retire a batter on Tuesday and served up a game-tying grand slam to Alex Rodriguez. Cory Gearrin came on and allowed a two-run home run to Nick Swisher that proved to be the game winner.

After experiencing good health for the most part with its pitching staff the Braves have had to shuffle things up of late. Julio Teheran was called up on Sunday to make a spot start for Tim Hudson who was dealing with a sore ankle. Brandon Beachy had his next scheduled start pushed back to Saturday due to elbow soreness and now O'Flaherty can be added to that list.
