Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was hoping to avoid a rehab assignment before returning to the Majors, but he was assigned to Braves single-A affiliate in Rome, Ga., for three games starting Friday night.
Jones completed his first game with the Rome Braves and he went 1-for-1 with two walks and a RBI. He only played a portion of the game on Friday night because Jones needed to see how well he could handle the pain while standing on his feet in the field.
Jones has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 23 after a ball went off of his leg on May 18 where Jones suffered a large laceration over the ankle and a contusion from his foot up to his shin which required surgery to drain fluid.
