Zack Greinke Trade Rumors: Brewers Prepared To Offer Large Extension

The Milwaukee Brewers may be prepared to offer a large extension to free agent to be Zack Greinke but the staff ace is unlikely to accept an extension while this close to free agency.

CBSSports.com writer Jon Heyman reports that Milwaukee is considering a five-year deal to Greinke worth around $100 million. However, according to Heyman $100 million might not be enough.

Following Matt Cain's $112.5 million, five-year Giants deal, a $100 million offer is a very reasonable try for Greinke, especially from a small-market team. But it's easy to imagine Greinke topping Cain now that he's fewer than three months from free agency, and considering his dynamic season. Agent Casey Close also declined to comment on the negotiations.

The Braves are among the rumored front runners pursuing Greinke but with that high a price tag would they be able to keep him from being a two month rental?
