Despite an earlier report that indicated otherwise Fox Sports' Jon Paul Morosi says that there is no evidence that the Milwaukee Brewers have made or will make a formal extension offer to Zack Greinke.
It doesn't appear there has been much dialogue between the Brewers and representatives for Greinke since spring training. As of Wednesday afternoon, there was no evidence that the team had made the 28-year-old a formal offer. And there isn't much time left before the deadline for the sides to strike a deal.
Teams like the Braves have been rumored to have interest in Greinke but they must decide how much they are willing to give up for what could amount to a end of season rental. Its likely that Greinke asks for a five-year deal in the neighborhood of $100 million for next season. Milwaukee may wait until right up until the deadline before making a decision on whether or not to trade Greinke but at this point it appears that the report of them considering an extension looks like a ploy to drive up the asking price.
