Braves Will 'Pick And Choose' Dan Uggla's Starts

With the 2B continuing to struggle, the Braves will be careful about when he gets at-bats going forward.

With veteran 2B Dan Uggla struggling through the worst season of his seven-year MLB career, Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez told MLB.com that he would manage Uggla's playing time carefully over the next few weeks:

"Why keep running him out there?" Gonzalez said. "That does not do him any good and it does not do us any good. So we're going to pick our spots with him a little bit."

The 32-year old has struggled mightily since coming over from the Miami Marlins in free agency after the 2010 season. He put up a .764 OPS in 2011 and a .705 mark in 2012, which isn't exactly the production Atlanta was expecting when they gave him a 5-year $62 million contract.

Martin Prado's defensive versatility has given Gonzalez another option at 2B and his bat (.296/.356/.431) is a much better option than Uggla's right now.
