Bourn's thumb injury proves to be a strain, but the Braves say the center fielder is day-to-day.
After an MRI showed little significant damage and a thumb strain, the Atlanta Braves said outfielder Michael Bourn was day-to-day with the injury as the season comes to a close and the Braves having already clinched at least a playoff spot.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution's Mike O'Brien, Bourn's injury amounts to a slight thumb strain, but the Braves are being cautious. Bourn injured his thumb sliding head first into a base. Bourn had been giving teammates advice not to slide head-first into bases, because of the injury risk, according to NBC Sports.
Bourn's MRI was done Thursday after the outfielder had hoped to return to action this week. For the season, Bourn is batting .274, but has not played since he injured his thumb on Saturday.
The speedster has also swiped 39 bases on the year to go with his 93 runs and 168 hits in 614 at-bats in 2012.
