Roddy White's Twitter Trash Talk Sends Saints-Falcons To DEFCON 1

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White just managed to turn this week's Monday Night Football game into a must-win for both the Falcons and the New Orleans Saints. Covering the Falcons this year has been a rewarding but profoundly boring experience, as all the team has done is win without major injuries, scandals, or drama of any sort. All that's behind us now.

Arguably the team's best player, White tweeted about the Saints, "The grace of god gave them tht championship so tht city wouldn fall apart now and now they think they hot shit." White has gotten into Twitter spats before, but usually with Chad Ochocinco. Never the entire gulf coast region. That's a new one, at least. Here was the tweet that started it all, and then the entire story:

No chance in hell the Aints come into the dome and win once trent dilferless than a minute ago via ÜberTwitter

Let's back up. Tuesday, ESPN troll (so dubbed with the highest respect, because he is very good at stirring up football fans) Trent Dilfer said the Falcons are beatable at home, that the Saints will prove it on Monday night, and that the Saints could prove it again in the playoffs. A fair enough sentiment, and not at all impossible. White responded with the above tweet Tuesday night, leading Saints fans to tear into him on Twitter.

The aints fans are so rude we shall see monday nightless than a minute ago via ÜberTwitter

Soon, Saints players got involved. DE Will Smith returned fire first, late Tuesday:

Wondering how @roddywhitetv has the audacity to call us AINT'S http://twitpic.com/3i9cifless than a minute ago via Twitter for Android

That tweet features a photo of Smith's Super Bowl ring. Reggie Bush retweeted it, and several other Saints players expressed approval. CB Tracy Porter called out Falcons fans, just as White had Saints fans:

I have a lot of #Falcon fans following me now..they must be following all the #saints..wanna know what's it like to follow a champion? lolless than a minute ago via Echofon

White appeared to dial it back down around noon Wednesday:

I don't know why everybody mad for the saints I made a comment on wht trent dilfer said on tv it had nothing to do with themless than a minute ago via ÜberTwitter

But then took it about nine levels further:

The grace of god gave them tht championship so tht city wouldn fall apart now and now they think they hot shit in ... http://tmi.me/4ugiTless than a minute ago via ÜberTwitter

The saints win one championship and want to go crazy well yall ass aint winning this year we gone make sure tht doesn't happenless than a minute ago via ÜberTwitter

Roddy's taking this to dangerous levels

It’s one thing to give the team bulletin board material, but I can’t imagine Mike Smith is going to be enamored with these comments when he gets wind of them.

Ahhh Saints Week.

After the Bucs, Panthers and Seahawks, it’s good to get back to some good old fashioned hate-filled football.
