Not only is Tony Gonzalez the finest tight end in football history, the Atlanta Falcons star might be the second-best pass catcher the NFL's ever seen. According to the stats, he is -- against the Detroit Lions, Gonzalez pulled in his fourth catch of the day on a long second-quarter drive to move him into No. 2 behind Jerry Rice and ahead of both Cris Carter and Marvin Harrison.
Here's video:
Gonzalez has 1,103 career catches now, putting him a mere 446 behind Rice. If he can play for, like, seven more seasons at the same level as he did in 2010, he'll have a chance to overtake the lead. (NOTE: He will not have a chance. But being No. 2 behind Jerry Rice is as impressive a feat any receiver will put up for a long, long time.)
