Jon Bon Jovi Confirms Interest In Buying Atlanta Falcons Ownership Stake

Jon Bon Jovi has confirmed to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen his desire to own a portion of the Atlanta Falcons franchise. The singer says he was approached by the Falcons months ago about a potential arrangement, and is now just waiting to see what happens.

Last month, Bon Jovi attended the team’s playoff loss against the Green Bay Packers, which somehow didn’t diminish his desire to invest money in the club.

Bon Jovi, via Mortensen:

Since helping to establish the Philadelphia Soul Arena Football team — from its inception through our 2008 championship season — I have always made clear my desire to someday enter the NFL.

That Bon Jovi describes himself as being approached by Arthur Blank’s people — and not the other way around — lends further credence to the idea that this is all about securing financial backing for a new stadium, at least on the Falcons end. The potential future minority owner of the team says he’s been looking for a way into NFL ownership for years now, a path that may or may not involve the Falcons.

Jon Bon Jovi Was At Atlanta Falcons-Green Bay Packers Playoff Game, According To Report

Jon Bon Jovi, who’s reportedly looking to buy at 15 percent share in the Atlanta Falcons, attended the team’s playoff game against the Green Bay Packers last month, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Alexis Stevens reports. That’s just about the last game you’d like to see attended by a potential $15 million investor, especially in the midst of a push for a new stadium, but Aaron Rodgers happens.

Stevens:

Wearing a black and red shirt and jacket combo, Bon Jovi posed for a picture with former Falcon Warrick Dunn, who now is a limited partner in the franchise.

So this adds something to Chris Mortensen’s report that Bon Jovi and Arthur Blank have been talking business, especially since the musician was rocking team colors. Based on the only photo we have in our database of Bon Jovi not performing at a pregame show, he’s been wearing red and black a lot lately. That pic up above was taken at this year’s Jets-Patriots playoff game, which was the day after Packers-Falcons.

Some have wondered what exactly Bon Jovi, a New Jersey native, would be doing looking to own a slice of a team in NASCAR country. Well, Blank is from New York originally, so.

Jon Bon Jovi Wants To Buy Atlanta Falcons Share, According To Report

Jon Bon Jovi has been discussing a potential purchase of the Atlanta Falcons with team owner Arthur Blank, according to Chris Mortensen. Yes, the world-famous Bon Jovi whose "Livin' On a Prayer" has become the most overplayed stadium song through no specific fault of its own. Mortensen reports Bon Jovi is interested in buying a 15 percent share of the franchise.

Blank says discussions are unlikely to result in Bon Jovi actually buying a portion of the team. The two parties have signed a confidentiality agreement, though 15 percent of the team's $1 billion valuation is pretty easy math to figure out.

This wouldn't be an entirely new thing for Blank. Warrick Dunn, for one, is a current minority owner of the team.

Bon Jovi wouldn't be the very coolest musician we could have around as a minority owner (I've always liked Yola Da Great's theories on responsible sports communities), but at least we know he's into the sports business. He owned an Arena League team for a while, even though the Arena League does not exist.

Blank doesn't need money in the traditional sense, but the whole idea is to bring on enough muscle to help get a new stadium built so we can have a Super Bowl here that everybody will complain about, which will require an even bigger stadium and bringing on the rest of Bon Jovi's band as even more minority owners.

Full disclosure: "Livin' On a Prayer" was my ringtone from like 2006 to 2007, and not entirely for trolling purposes.
