Chris Owens Family Violence Case Dismissed In Court

Falcons cornerback Chris Owens, who was accused of tearing up ex-girlfriend Latia Terry's apartment along with several personal items, had his case dismissed by Terry in a family violence hearing Wednesday morning. Regarding the case's dismissal, Owens' attorney Randall Kessler had this to say:

He is pleased that she decided to dismiss the case. He looks forward to working with her to raise their son together.

On June 12, Owens was alleged to have destroyed several of Terry's possessions by dousing them in bleach. As part of the dismissal, Owens and Terry are to begin working out parental rights over their nine month-old son.

The case dismissal is sure to be a relief for the Falcons, who lack any sort of depth at the cornerback position outside of starters Dunta Robinson and Brent Grimes. Pending any free agency acquisitions, Owens should still be in line to begin the 2011 season as the team's primary nickelback.

Chris Owens Denies Ex-Girlfriend's Apartment Rampage Story, According To Report

In response to the accusations that he destroyed over $15,000 worth of personal items belonging to his ex-girlfriend, Christopher Owens is trying to get the protective order removed. Owens claims that LaTia Terry, with whom he has a nine month old son, is seeking "revenge" on the cornerback because he does not want a relationship.

Owens has also denied any allegation that he ransacked Terry's apartment, the same one he has been paying for Terry and their son to live in. Owens went on to claim that upon receiving the protective order, she began posting negative comments about him on the Internet.

Thus far in his football career, Owens has never been in any sort of legal trouble. He has a clean slate, and has been an upstanding member of the community in Atlanta as well, earning Atlanta Falcons Man of the Year honors in 2010.

The claims in this story now seem to point to a far less one-sided explanation. Owens may very well not be responsible for destroying the apartment. A family violence hearing will be held on June 22 at 8:30 AM.

Chris Owens Accused Of Tearing Up Ex-Girlfriend's Apartment, According To Report

Atlanta Falcons CB Christopher Owens has been accused by an ex-girlfriend of trashing her apartment Sunday night and destroying valuables, according to a TMZ report. Owens is reportedly accused of dousing LaTia Terry's clothes and jewelry with bleach, putting holes in a wall and damaging a laptop and crib.

According to the story, Owens' rampage was due to a fight over custody of the former couple's nine-month-old child.

Owens hasn't been arrested, though Terry claimed to police the allegedly destroyed items were worth about $15,000 and has filed a restraining order.

If any of this is true, it would be the first trouble Owens has made since being drafted as a third-round selection out of San Jose State. He's been a reasonably popular Falcons defender, considering his depth chart status, and would be the first Falcons draft pick of the Thomas Dimitroff era to land in any serious trouble.
