NFL Free Agency: New Reports Indicate Atlanta Falcons Have Over $30M In Cap Space

The Falcons could have quite a bit of money at their disposal once free agency hits this March. According to CBS Sports' Knox Bardeen (via John Clayton), the Falcons will have approximately $30.6 million in cap room this offseason.

Star-divide

Of course, a large chunk of that cap space is available only because guys like John Abraham, Curtis Lofton, and of course will all be free agents very soon. But whichever way you look at the situation, the Falcons are poised to spend and potentially spend big at that.

With a free agent market that features some great players at positions of need for the Falcons (guys like OG Carl Nicks and DE Robert Mathis come to mind), they'll also have a great shot at bringing in new players that have positive postseason experience as well.

It's also worth remembering that with no first round pick in this year's draft, free agency will be critical if the Falcons are serious about really improving in 2012 (something about Arthur Blank's demeanor in the post-season press conference tells me they are). Draft picks aren't really taking up much salary room these days, anyways.

So in short, whatever the Falcons actually do this offseason, don't be surprised if they do things bigger than recent years. Get excited.
