The Atlanta Falcons earlier today announced that the team had reached an agreement on a new contract with backup quarterback Chris Redman.

Redman signed with the Falcons initially in 2007 and has served as Matt Ryan's backup for the last four seasons. In 2011, Redman appeared in five games for the Falcons completing 18 of 28 passing attempts for 188 yards. In his nine year career, Redman has appeared in 31 games and completed 286 of 500 passing attempts for 3,179 yards and 21 touchdowns. Redman was a third-round selection by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Redman is the second Falcons free agent to re-sign with the club with wide receiver Harry Douglas also agreeing to a new contract on the first day of the NFL free agent period.
