Falcons Offseason 2012: Brent Grimes Signs Franchise Tender

Stay connected for news and updates

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes has signed his franchise tender worth $10.262 million, the team announced. Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Falcons were pursuing another cornerback through trade, Philadelphia Eagles veteran Asante Samuel.

Those discussions are ongoing, while Grimes will make what the tender deal is worth unless a restructured longer deal is worked out. Speaking of workouts, Grimes is expected to join the Falcons in offseason workouts now that he has signed his tender.

This, regarding the Asante Samuel talks, via Pat Yasinskas:

"It's possible he and fellow starting cornerback Dunta Robinson could have some company soon. As we discussed earlier, the Falcons are at least in the mix for a possible trade to get Philadelphia cornerback Asante Samuel. I don't expect that situation to drag on very long. I'd expect a resolution, one way or the other, before the draft starts Thursday night."
