Atlanta Falcons Offseason: TE Ryan Winterswky Placed On Reserve Retired List

The Falcons announced Monday that practice squad tight end Ryan Winterswyk has been placed on the reserve retired list. The list means Winterswyk is retired, but the Falcons control his rights should he decided to return to pro football.

Winterswyk was a three-time All-WAC defensive end at Boise State from 2007-10. He signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in July of 2011, where Atlanta moved to him tight end. Winterswyk did play some tight end at Boise State in 2010 due to some injuries on the team.

He suffered an ankle sprain in training camp and underwent six weeks of rehab. When he returned, he was signed to the practice squad, where he was for the final five weeks of the 2011 season.

Unsigned draft picks count against the 90-man offseason rosters in the NFL, but Winterswyk going on the reserve retired list opens another spot. Last week, the New England Patrios made a similar move, placing veteran offensive tackle Matt Light on the list.
