Based on comments by head coach Mike Smith to the Atlanta Falcons' official team site - and interpreted by outlets like Pro Football Talk - the Falcons seem to be moving towards a by-committee approach towards rushing the ball, which would diminish the number of touches starter Michael Turner would see in 2012.
Dirk Koetter has made numerous comments citing the versatility of depth at playmaker on the Falcons' offense, be it Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White and Julio Jones catching the ball, or Turner, Jason Snelling and Jacquizz Rodgers all as viable optionsin the backfield:
"We do have a lot of weapons and only one football," he said. "How that shakes out, Matt (Ryan) has confidence in all the guys he’s working with. We have a lot of guys that can make plays. If you were out here (Tuesday) you saw a bunch of different guys making big plays. That’s actually a good problem to have."
