Marvin Williams Injury: Atlanta Hawks Forward Stays In Atlanta While Team Heads To Oklahoma City

Stay connected for news and updates

Injured Atlanta Hawks forward Marvin Williams will most likely ring in the new year in the ATL. His team will be on an airplane somewhere between Oklahoma City and Loss Angeles.

The AJC's Michael Cunningham tweets that the Hawks forward did not travel with the team ahead of its New Year's Eve matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder.  He is was left back in Atlanta getting treatment and an MRI on his sore back.  Williams crashed to the Philips Arena floor trying to intercept a pass in the third quarter in Atlanta's 103-93 win over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.  He was diagnosed with a back bruise.

Williams, a 2005 first round pick, has appeared in 30 games for the Hawks thus far this year and is averaging 11 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a combination as a starter and the sixth or seventh man off of Atlanta's bench.

Look for the Hawks to go big in Williams' absence, starting Jason Collins center, shifting Al Horford over to power forward and Josh Smith over to William's spot at small forward.
