New York Knicks Vs. Atlanta Hawks: Marvin Williams Ejected After Fight With Knicks Shawne Williams

UPDATE: Video of the Marvin Williams-Shawne Williams fight here.

Atlanta Hawks forward Marvin Williams was ejected with 43.7 left in the fourth quarter after exchanging blows with New York Knicks forward Shawne Williams.

The Hawks went up the court with a 111-101 lead in the waning seconds of the game when Marvin Williams and Shawne Williams tangled with each other down the court. The two jostled a bit.  Marvin Williams pushed Shawne Williams.  Shawne Williams pushed Marvin Williams and the pair started exchanging words.  Words quickly changed to punches.

Both Shawne Williams started with a left hook.  Marvin Williams followed before he was restrained by Josh Smith on the court.

Marvin Williams continued jawing away as he was restrained by team officials on his way to the Atlanta locker room. Shawne Williams stuck around while the officials reviewed the tape of the incident.  Ultimately, both players were ejected, although Marvin Williams was assessed  a technical foul on the play.  Atlanta won the game 111-102.

The Hawks may be without Marvin Williams when they take on the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night in Texas.  Throwing a punch is grounds for an automatic one-game suspension in the NBA and the league generally hands down discipline in such matters very swiftly.
