WNBA Draft 2011: Ta'Shia Phillips To Dream, Maya Moore No. 1, Alex Montgomery To Liberty

A trio of 2011 WNBA draftees with old or new Atlanta connections went off the board in the first round (visit Swish Appeal for an instantly updated list of WNBA Draft results, along with expert commentary). The Atlanta Dream selected Xavier center Ta’Shia Phillips No. 8, whom Swish Appeal’s Nate Parham describes as “a very physical defender who is an outstanding rebounder,” but has concerns about her development. The community’s resident Dream fan is happy, so great!

Atlanta’s own Maya Moore went No. 1 overall to the Minnesota Lynx, the least-surprising No. 1 pick any draft has seen since … help me out here.

And Georgia Tech’s Alex Montgomery made a very surprising top 10 entry, going to the New York Liberty. Parham is concerned about her shooting (and whether she would’ve been available much later on in the draft), but — well, actually there’s nobody around to stick up for Montgomery.
