The news wasn't all good for the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night. Even though Atlanta is headed to the second round after beating the Orlando Magic 84-81 in Game 6 of of their opening round series, they may be without their starting point guard when they tip off against the Chicago Bulls next week.
Former Bull Kirk Hinrich strained his right hamstring as he slashed to the bucket for a layup with 3:07 left in the Game 6 win. He ran down the court on the ensuing possession with a noticeable limp and was removed from the game 11 seconds later.
The Hawks announced that Hinrich will have an MRI on the injured hamstring on Friday.
Hinrich averaged 10.2 points per game and 2.7 assists in the just-completed six-game series with the Magic.
Should Hinrich be sidelined for any considerable period of time, expect Jamal Crawford to get the bulk of the minutes at the point. Atlanta will also dust off second-year backup PG Jeff Teague, who spent most of the first-round series against Orlando on the bench.
