Jannero Pargo Injury: Hawks Guard Has Appendicitis, To Have Surgery Sunday Night

Tests performed at The Cleveland Clinic revealed that Atlanta Hawks guard Jannero Pargo has appendicitis and will undergo surgery tonight and will not travel with the team back to Atlanta.

Pargo was transported to the hospital prior to tip off of Atlanta's win over the Cavs on Sunday. He was set to undergo tests for a stomach illness. The surgery will keep him out of action for several days.

Atlanta has battled injuries from onset this season. Al Horford was lost early in the campaign for the remainder of the regular season for a torn pectoral muscle. Joe Johnson has also missed time battling tendinitis in his knee. The Hawks played the Cavs on Sunday without Marvin Williams, Vladimir Radmanovic and Willie Green who stayed behind in Atlanta while dealing with assorted injuries.

Jannero Pargo Injury: Hawks Guard Spending The Night In Cleveland Hospital

Atlanta Hawks guard Jannero Pargo will spend the night in a Cleveland Hospital to undergo tests for some sort of a stomach illness. Pargo is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Boston Celtics.

Pargo was announced out of Sunday's game against the Cavaliers about an hour before tip off and was later transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. He was undergoing tests for possible dehydration.

Without Pargo, Hawks coach Larry Drew played Jeff Teague and Kirk Hinrich both around 36 minutes each and Tracy McGrady saw just under 26 minutes of action. McGrady's status for Monday's game isn't known as the Hawks have refrained from playing him in back-to-back situations this season. Jerry Stackhouse played just under nine minutes and scored nine points for Atlanta.

Hawks Vs. Cavaliers Final Score: Atlanta Cruises To 103-87 Win Over Cleveland

The Atlanta Hawks won for the second straight time knocking off the Cleveland Cavaliers by a score of 103-87. The Hawks jumped out to a 31-19 lead in the first quarter and besides a slight lapse in the third, were in control throughout.

Joe Johnson had his second straight strong game pouring in 28 points on 11-16 shooting. Johnson was 3-4 from long-range and also had four rebounds and five assists. Jeff Teague added 18 points while Kirk Hinrich finished with 14. Zaza Pachulia barely missed out on a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds while Josh Smith added seven points, eight boards and nine assists despite 3-15 shooting.

Alonzo Gee scored 20 points to lead the Cavs and was followed by Kyrie Irvings' 19. Irving added 10 assists and was 6-14 from the field. Antawn Jamison added 17 points and seven rebounds.

Atlanta hit 51 percent of its field goal attempts and was 8-18 from three-point range. The Hawks improve to 26-19 on the season and begin a three game home stand on Monday.

Hawks Vs. Cavaliers Score: Joe Johnson's 17 Helps Atlanta To 59-45 Halftime Lead

The Atlanta Hawks built a 59-45 halftime lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers behind more hot shooting from Joe Johnson who leads the way with 17 points and five assists. Atlanta jumped out to a 31-19 lead at the end of the first quarter and have been able to keep the Cavaliers at arms length throughout the first half.

Johnson hit 6-7 shots and all three of his three-point attempts in the first half to pace Atlanta with 17. Kirk Hinrich has nine points and Zaza Pachulia eight for Atlanta. Josh Smith has seven points, four rebounds and six assists at the half. Atlanta hit 59 percent of its shots over the first 24 minutes and have 14 assists on 24 made baskets.

Kyrie Irving and Alonzo Gee have 13 points each to lead the Cavaliers. Rookie Tristan Thompson made his first start of the season and went scoreless in 17 minutes in the first half going 0-3 from the field while grabbing three rebounds.

Hawks Vs. Cavs: Jannero Pargo Out Of Sunday's Game Due To Illness

The already shorthanded Atlanta Hawks will be down another player on Sunday after it was learned that Jannero Pargo will miss the game against the Cavaliers with a stomach illness.

Atlanta is expected to start both Jeff Teague and Kirk Hinrich in the backcourt with Joe Johnson shifting to the small forward position. Without Pargo available, it will potentially mean more minutes for Tracy McGrady or Jerry Stackhouse off the bench for Atlanta.

Pargo has appeared in 39 games for Atlanta this season and is averaging 5.2 points and 1.4 assists per game while shooting a career best 42 percent from the field.

NBA Standings 2012: Hawks Closing In On Pacers In Eastern Conference Standings

The Atlanta Hawks enter Sunday's game just a half game behind the Indiana Pacers for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. The Pacers are idle on Sunday so with a win over the Cavaliers, Atlanta will move into fifth place because they own the tiebreaker over Indiana by winning the season series.
