NBA Power Rankings Update: Hawks Are Having A Good Month

The Atlanta Hawks are 5-2 in the month of April, which has not only led them to a clinched playoff berth while the team currently holds down the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.

Atlanta is also the 11th-ranked squad in the latest SB Nation NBA Power Rankings, with its most recent victory coming over the non-contending Toronto Raptors. Our lead NBA writer Tom Ziller wants to see what this Hawks team can put together when Al Horford gets back.

"Seriously, if they get Al Horford, easily the roster's best player, back for the playoffs? We need to be ready for the potential of the Hawks in conference finals. They took a healthy Bulls squad to six last year, and Jeff Teague and the bench are improved."

Horford played in 11 games this season before he was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Hawks Vs. Raptors: Atlanta Clinches Playoff Berth With 109-87 Win

One night after being run out of their own gym, the Atlanta Hawks returned the favor to the Toronto with a 109-87 win Monday night.

The win clinched a playoff berth for the Hawks and moved them into a three-way tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with the Boston Celtics and the Orlando Magic. The Celtics hold the tiebreaker for the final spot for home-court in the first round.

Ivan Johnson led the Hawks with 21 points off the bench. Johnson also had eight rebounds. Jeff Teague had a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists. Teague shot 6-for-11 and had just one turnover. Joe Johnson had 18 points and Marvin Williams had 16 points off the bench.

The Hawks led by three at halftime and finished the third quarter on a 12-3 run to take an 11 point lead after three quarters. They kept up the energy and outscored the Raptors 30-19 in the fourth quarter for the blowout victory.

Zaza Pachulia Injury: Hawks Center Hopes To Return This Season

While the Hawks still have not confirmed anything regarding Zaza Pachulia's injury, he made a couple of comments to the AJC's Michael Cunningham that indicate that he could be dealing with more than a simple foot sprain.

An earlier report on Monday indicated that Pachulia could miss the remainder of the regular season. Atlanta may opt not to rush Pachulia back given their lack of quality depth at the center position. Jason Collins has started the last two games in Pachulia's absence and Ivan Johnson has played well off the bench. Still Johnson is an undersized option at the pivot and could be over matched against larger opponents.

Hawks Vs. Raptors Score Update: Atlanta Leads Toronto 54-51 At Halftime

Looking to clinch a playoff berth, the Hawks are leading the Raptors in Toronto 54-51 at the break.

These teams met in Atlanta on Sunday night, and the Raptors used a 12-point edge in the second quarter to take a sizable lead into the locker room and cruised to a 102-86 victory. A win Monday night would tie the Hawks with the Celtics for fourth place in the Eastern Conference and clinch a playoff spot.

Joe Johnson leads the Hawks with 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting, along with three assists. Jeff Teague has 10 points and six assists. Ivan Johnson has eight points on 4-for-5 shooting in 12 minutes off the bench. James Johnson has 15 points off the bench for the Raptors. The Hawks were 3-for-11 from three-point range.

Hawks Vs. Raptors: Jason Collins Back In The Starting Lineup

Despite turning in one of their worst performances of the second-half of the season on Sunday, the Hawks will stick with the same starting lineup with Jason Collins replacing the injured Zaza Pachulia at the center position.

Collins started and played just over five minutes finishing with one point and one rebound to his credit. Ivan Johnson came off the bench and finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Johnson got the start in the second half at the center position for the Hawks.

Zaza Pachulia was slated to miss at least two games but his status for Wednesday's game against the Pistons is unknown at this time.

2012 NBA Standings: Hawks One Win Away From Clinching A Playoff Spot

The Atlanta Hawks had a chance to clinch a playoff spot Sunday night against the Toronto Raptors, but the Hawks had a poor performance and lost 102-86. In addition to not clinching a playoff spot, the loss also put the Hawks a half game behind the Celtics for the No. 4 spot and home court advantage.

Right now the Hawks have ix games left and the odds of them falling out of a playoff spot is unlikely since they are four games ahead of the Knicks at the No. 8 spot and six games ahead of the Bucks who are at the No. 9 spot.

The focus for the Hawks is to first get that playoff clinching win and then try to get home court advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
