Josh Smith Injury: Hawks Forward Doubtful For Game 3, Probable For Game 4

Stay connected for news and updates

The Atlanta Hawks have (somewhat) dodged a bullet, as an MRI on star forward Josh Smith's injured knee has revealed inflammation in his knee but no structural damage.

As a result, Smith may be ready to return to action by Game 4 on Sunday:

With Al Horford and Zaza Pachulia still out, Smith's absence leaves their front-court dangerously thin for Friday's Game 3.The only front-court player that would normally be a part of the team's rotation is backup PF Ivan Johnson, who is probably too offensively limited to play next to C Jason Collins.

The Hawks may elect to go small with Marvin Williams at the 4, but they'll need Smith back as soon as possible to have any chance of defeating the Celtics in the first-round.
