2012 NBA Draft: John Jenkins Has 'Deceptive' Athleticism

Coming out of Vanderbilt John Jenkins is most known for his shooting and had Hawks coach Larry Drew comparing him to J.J. Redick. The Hawks and the rest of the NBA knows that Jenkins can shoot the basketball the question is can he do the other things necessary to be successful in the league.

After a recent workout at Philips Arena both Rick Sund and Dave Pendergraft used the word "deceptive" when describing Jenkins' athleticism. Jenkins offered that he didn't show a lot of athleticism at Vanderbilt because it wasn't necessarily his role, but individual workouts were giving him the opportunity to showcase that part of his game a little more.

"I didn't show it so much at Vandy because that wasn't my role and I didn't get enough opportunities. But now that I'm in my individual workouts I can show that I can dunk the ball and do a lot of good things athletically."

His dunking ability isn't likely to impress teams as they really want to know whether or not he can stay in front of anyone defensively at the NBA level.

Jenkins has been projected as a late first / early second round selection on draft day. The Hawks could use Jenkins' perimeter shooting but they may not be compelled to pull the trigger with the 23rd pick.
