Thrashers goaltender Ondrej Pavelec is to have further tests on his heart, blood, and genetics to determine what exactly happened to make him pass out on Friday. The current diagnosis is a neurocardiogenic syncope episode, or a fainting spell.
The Thrashers have released a statement from the young goaltender:
“I want to thank all the doctors, trainers and emergency personnel who took such good care of me. I would also like to thank my teammates, all the fans and everyone in the hockey community who have reached out to me and offered their support and well-wishes over the last few days. I hope to be back in action as soon as possible.”
The Thrashers have sent goaltender Drew MacIntyre back to the Chicago Wolves and have recalled Chris Carrozzi to practice with the team today. It is expected that Peter Manninio will be recalled from the Wolves to join the Thrashers in Los Angeles for Tuesday night’s game against the Kings.

Ondrej Pavelec was released from hospital yesterday evening to go home and rest. Tests were still inconclusive as to what caused his sudden collapse.
Pavelec has been placed on injured reserve to clear roster space for Drew MacIntyre to serve as Chris Mason’s back-up until Pavelec can be cleared for play. He will not be going with the team to California for the road trip that begins tomorrow night. It is inadvisable for individuals with concussions to fly or participate in high-stress activities.

Thrashers beat writer Chris Vivlamore spoke with Pavelec yesterday regarding his collapse Friday night during the beginning of the Thrashers’ game against the Capitals. When asked what he remembers of Friday, Pavelec said:
"I would like to tell you [what happened]," Pavelec told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an exclusive interview Saturday. "The last thing I remember was the lights going on after the [national] anthem. I don’t remember anything until I woke up in the ambulance and saw the doctor looking at me."
Pavelec didn’t wake up until he was placed into the ambulance, and didn’t get feeling back in his legs until he reached the emergency room. He’s undergone full body MRIs, and his brain and heart didn’t show anything to be worried about. He should undergo more tests today and be released later this afternoon.
Waddell says that "we now at least have a reason to look at the glass as being half full." Until Pavelec gets full clearance to leave the hospital, that’s the best the team can do.

The Thrashers’ 23 year old starting goaltender is still recuperating in hospital after his collapse during the first period of last night’s 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Pavelec is suffering from a mild concussion that occurred when his head hit the ice during the fall. His mask cushioned the blow, but he need to be watched for any post-concussive symptoms. The concussion should keep him out of quite a few upcoming games for safety’s sake, making it very possible that Chicago Wolves goaltender Drew MacIntyre will accompany the team on their upcoming west coast road trip.
Chris Vivlamore of the AJC will be speaking to Pavelec later this afternoon. No one seems to know much regarding the cause of his collapse. News will hopefully be forthcoming as to the reason for it.

Thrashers’ update on Pavelec: “Ondrej has a concussion and a subsequent headache but is fully alert and doing well.” He’ll get more testing.
He sustained the concussion from his fall, but there’s still no word on what caused him to lose consciousness in the first place.
Still, it’s great to hear he’s fine.

The Atlanta Thrashers Fan Club has established a site for fans wishing to send a get well message to Pavelec here. When a diagnosis comes out, that will be posted here, but as of right now don’t be surprised if Drew MacIntyre or one of the Gwinnett Gladiators’ goaltenders accompanies the Thrashers on their trip to Florida tomorrow night to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Two minutes into the Thrashers' opener, Ondrej Pavelec crumpled to the ice. The puck was at the other end of the rink, and Pavalec had shown no signs of discomfort or struggle.
Teammates rushed to help, waving for staff assistance as a stunned Philips crowd looked on in silence.
Pavelec wasn't moving as medical crew worked for ten minutes, eventually lifting him onto a stretcher. He's still breathing, at least.
More to come.
Pavelec was eventually taken off on a stretcher and is presumably being taken to be checked out. Chris Mason takes over in goal.
