The West Lunt transfer saga: Mike Gundy reportedly blocking QB left and right

The former Oklahoma State starter is reportedly looking at a perhaps unprecedented list of transfer stipulations.

Former Oklahoma State Cowboys quarterback Wes Lunt is looking to transfer and is visiting Illinois on Thursday, according to a report from Zach Kerker of Channel1450.com. Kerker also notes that the Illini are thought to be the front-runners so far.

Lunt began his freshman season in 2012 as the Cowboys' starting quarterback, but various injuries ultimately derailed his year. He finished throwing for 1,108 yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions over five games. A native of Rochester, Ill., Lunt is reportedly also being recruited by Louisville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Southern Miss, along with Illinois. ESPN's Joe Schad reports that Lunt is expected to make a choice between one of these five schools without expanding his list.

As Tom Fornelli writes in an update for The Champaign Room, Lunt's high school coach believes the Illini will be a "big player" for the quarterback's services due to reasons such as being close to home as well as his connection to the school growing up.

Fornelli also adds, however, that a more football-related reason could help sway Lunt to joining Illinois:

Another factor in our favor is a chance at playing time. I don't think Tim Beckman or Cubit would promise Lunt the starting job when he gets here, but by the time he's eligible to play he'll be battling with Reilly O'Tooleand Aaron Bailey for the right. Meaning he'll have a good shot at earning the starting job with three years of eligibility remaining.

Not a day goes by without one or another Stoops saying something interesting, it seems.

Bob Stoops has had plenty of things to say about a college football playoff over the past year. He was quick to voice his opinion on whether the media should play any role in the new system, and Chris Huston of CBS Sports was among those who got it on record.

When asked Monday whether media should be involved in the playoff committee, Stoops said "Oh, hell no."

It remains to be seen who will be part of the selection committee to determine the top four teams that get into the playoff every season. It could be former head coaches, presidents, various college football experts, and -- yes -- the media.

Stoops didn't seem very enthused about the playoff a year ago and wanted the 'plus-one' model instead, saying that it "would ruin the bowl system." Stoops was then very excited by the possibility of a new playoff system last July, saying that it benefited everyone involved to have "the best teams in the country to determine a national champion on the football field."

Buster Rhymes was an All-America wide receiver under Barry Switzer at early-1980s Oklahoma, where he once fired an Uzi in response to a snowball fight, according to teammate Brian Bosworth (who has been accused of telling a tall tale or two). He played two years for the Vikings and two more in the CFL. There was later a famous rapper with the same name.
