Jonathan Babineaux suffered a knee injury Sunday now being diagnosed as a partially torn MCL.

Jonathan Babineaux has been one of the most consistent Atlanta Falcons over the past few seasons, missing just one start in the past three years. Even a partially torn MCL couldn't keep the defensive tackle off the field on Sunday as Babineaux returned from the locker room in the third quarter to play the remainder of the game despite the knee injury.

Babineaux's injury doesn't seem to be a huge reason for concern considering team doctors allowed him to play the remainder of Sunday's game, a 30-12 loss to the Chicago Bears. If Babineuax is forced to miss any amount of time, the Falcons may need to sign a replacement as injury issues have already decimated the defensive line.

Fellow starting defensive tackle Corey Peters missed Sunday's game with a lingering knee injury and if two backups are needed to start on the interior line, the Falcons could find themselves in an 0-2 hole after next week's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Atlanta Falcons will play their final preseason game of the year on Thursday night when they play host to the Baltimore Ravens in what Jason Kirk describes as the NFL's most curious rivalry. The TV schedule, game time and everything else is posted below, but first, a short preview from our friends around SB Nation.

Dave Choate of the Falcoholic, SB Nation's Atlanta Falcons blog, wrote on Wednesday night how the signing of James Sanders and Kelvin Hayden might change how the front office looks at the team's defensive backfield on Thursday night.

What happens next, considering the Falcons have to cut down to 80 players? Chris Owens could get the boot, or an undrafted free agent type like Kamaal McIlwain. Chauncey Davis and his fancy salary could be looking for work, too, if the Falcons want a little more cap breathing room.

That's all for the next day or two to determine. What is clear is that the Falcons just got better, without a clear downside. That's the kind of thing every Falcons fan, even the ones in lead-lined bunkers, can get behind.

Over at Baltimore Beatdown, SB Nation's Baltimore Ravens blog, Bruce Raffel broke down a few of the players to watch when not focusing on the Falcons' high-octane offense.

"WR David Reed was a fifth round draft pick last year who couldn't stay healthy and only recently returned to the practice field this week. However, he is already ahead of the rookie WR's and proved he can be a solid kick returner as he returned one for a TD last season. The other guy is punter Sam Koch, who is a linebacker in a punter's body and booms kicks far and can touch them down near the goal line almost on command, which is a very under rated skill."

Michael Vick's new contract is going to help the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback as much as a 100 million dollar deal would help anyone else, perhaps more due to his past bankruptcy issues. In an interesting turn of events, though, the contract the Philadelphia Eagles decided to gift Vick with will also help out his former employer.

Vick's new contract with the Eagles is worth about $100 million, with around $40 million of that amount guaranteed, though between 10 and 40 percent of that salary each season will be paid to those he owes until he's able to pay off his roughly $20 million debt, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The entity he owes the most money to is the Falcons, stemming from defaulting on his last contract -- specifically a roster bonus -- due to the whole prison thing. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Jeff Schultz reports the amount that Vick still owes the Falcons is $7.5 million.

While that's all well and good, the interesting part comes in here:

Our D. Orlando Ledbetter reported back in April of 2009 that Vick and the Falcons had reached a settlement on the salary cap refund, so that part of the story is not news. But this could be: Via ProFootballTalk.com, the Falcons will seek and could receive salary cap credits, which would come as Vick returns the money.

The NFL hasn't officially ruled if the Falcons will receive credits to the cap -- which would obviously give them benefits over other NFL teams in the signing department -- but maybe not everything regarding Vick's comeback will be bad after all.

The Atlanta Falcons made another round of NFL roster cuts on Tuesday as they slowly make their way toward the 53-man limit needed prior to the start of the regular season. The team needed to have its roster reduced to 80 players, but it did one better by making it down to just 79 players in anticipation of the team's final preseason game.

The Falcons cut wide receivers Kirk Belgrave, Doug Beaumont and Tim Buckley, running back Philip Sylvester and linebackers LaMarcus Thompson and Youri Yenga to get down to 79 in accordance with the NFL-mandated roster cuts, according to CBS Sports' Knox Bardeen.

None of the six players were expected to be anything more than bit players on the Falcons for the upcoming season and therefore it wasn't a particularly surprising move on the part of the Atlanta front office. Releasing three wide receivers proves the decision makers have a pretty good idea of who is in their plans to play behind Julio Jones, Roddy White and Harry Douglas, though.

Todd McClure's injury has already caused the Atlanta Falcons' center to miss two preseason games. According to the most recent reports, it seems that the typically injury-free offensive lineman has been officially shut down for the fourth and final game of the exhibition schedule along with Atlanta's Week 1 opener versus the Chicago Bears.

McClure underwent knee surgery on Monday for what the team called a "minor procedure."

Falcons head coach Mike Smith told the media on Tuesday that McClure won't be available for the next two weeks, according to Jay Adams. McClure had previously started 166 straight games for the Falcons, dating back to 2001 after the Falcons acquired him as a seventh round pick in the 1999 NFL Draft.

The team hasn't made a formal announcement regarding which backup will replace McClure in the starting lineup, but veteran Joe Hawley appears to be the top option according to the depth chart posted on the team's website.

The SEC Expansion rumors seem to be coming closer to fruition following a new development on Monday afternoon. The newest development being, by the way, that Texas A&M received a letter allowing them to leave the Big 12 without the school being sued.

Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News has been made privy to the information included in said letter and, as the SEC had hoped, it includes details regarding any possible legal hurdles being cleared. The letter "outlines the withdrawal procedures according to the financial provisions of the Big 12 bylaws and mutual waivers of legal claims."

One hang up in the letter from the Big 12, though, included a mention of the league's bylaws "which would involve forfeiting 90 percent of conference revenue for 2010-11 and '11-12, an amount that could reach $28 million." Carlton wrote that he expects that fee could be negotiated down to a more amenable amount, however.

Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin issued the following statement regarding the letter.

"I certainly appreciate the discussion among the Big 12 presidents/chancellors and the expression of their desire for Texas a&M to remain in the conference," Loftin said in a statement. "We all agree that Texas A&M is an extremely valuable institution; thus, it is incumbent upon me, as the president of the university, to ensure that we are in a position to enhance our national visibility and future financial opportunity. While this is a complex and long-term decision, it is not our intent to prolong our conference exploration for an extended period of time."

The way Loftin makes it sound, this move could be done sooner rather than later.

The Atlanta Falcons’ injury report will include starting center Todd McClure for a couple more weeks, it seems, due to a minor knee surgery. McClure has been out due to injury since starting against the Miami Dolphins during the first week of the preseason.

“Todd McClure, this morning, had a minor procedure done on his knee,” Falcons head coach Mike Smith told reporters after Monday’s practice. “We don’t know the exact timeframe of him coming back. It was a very minor procedure. It was done this morning. I haven’t had an opportunity to talk to Todd or the doctors yet but we will be able to update that next week."

Next week, of course, is when the Falcons will also be preparing for the first week of the regular season. As of now, it’s unclear if McClure will be able to participate in that game.

“We will make a determination [if he can play in the season-opener] as we get closer to it next week,” Smith said. “The first few days, as I understand it, will be very critical in terms of when he can come back.”

McClure has started 166 straight games at center, but with the injury, there’s a chance he might break that streak. As of now, Jow Hawley is the top backup on the Falcons’ depth chart.

Georgia Tech basketball's 2011-12 schedule includes quite a few home games at Philips Arena, the first time the Yellow Jackets have played there since 2005.

Georgia Tech basketball released its schedule for the 2011 season on Wednesday, meaning there's just a few months left until basketball is back to being played in Georgia -- regardless of the NBA lockout. Surprisingly, even with the on-campus Alexander Memorial Coliseum being renovated, the Yellow Jackets will play a decent number of games close to home.

Georgia Tech's "home" games will be split between Philips Arena, the home of the Atlanta Hawks and Dream, along with the Arena at Gwinnett in Duluth, Ga. The games at Philips Arena will be the first Georgia Tech has played there since 2005 when Luke Schenscher, Jarrett Jack, Anthony Morrow, Will Bynum, B.J. Elder and Mario West played for the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets first game of the season will be held Nov. 11 at the Gwinnett Arena when new head coach Brian Gregory and his Georgia Tech student-athletes host Florida A&M. The team's first ACC game will be held at Philips Arena on Jan. 7 as they host the Duke Blue Devils. Philips will be an important place to get used to if Georgia Tech wants to have success this season, too, as the ACC Conference Tournament is scheduled to take place at the home of the Hawks as well.

NBA 2K12 has historic rosters, in part because the NBA lockout will probably not make the regular rosters all that exciting when the game is released on October 4. The reason this is relevant to SB Nation Atlanta is that one of the historic teams being represented in the best annual NBA game is "Pistol" Pete Maravich's Atlanta Hawks from the 1970-1971 season.

This particular season was Maravich's rookie year when he averaged 23.2 points alongside other notable names like Lou Hudson, Walt Bellamy, Walt Hazzard and Bill Bridges. It wasn't a particularly dominant team as they lost to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, but whenever a video game has the opportunity to include a player nicknamed the Pistol with video game-like highlight reels, it probably should.

In order to include the Hawks and Maravich, a player not deemed one of the 15 legends included in the game, the 2K12 developers decided to match-up Jerry West's Lakers team of the same season. West's team includes Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and Gail Goodrich, among others. Before testing the game out to see how Maravich compares to any of today's superstars, players will have to defeat the Lakers in an exhibition game to unlock the team.

If the current version of the Hawks are bad in this game, at least there's a suitable replacement -- with cooler uniforms.
