Mike Cox glad to be back with Falcons

Steve Mitchell-US PRESSWIRE

Fullback Mike Cox is thrilled to be getting another chance in Atlanta after the Falcons cut him in training camp.

The Atlanta Falcons have brought back fullback Mike Cox, who was cut from the team at the end of training camp. Cox is thrilled to be back in the mix and part of a team that has gotten off to such a hot start (via the Falcons' official website):

"I've been following the team throughout the time away, just because I love these guys being with them last year and throughout training camp," Cox said Wednesday. "It's fun to be in the locker room and see all the faces again."

Cox engaged in a fierce preseason battle with veteran fullfack Lousaka Polite, but wound up losing the job. However, Polite has struggled through much of this season, leading to Cox's return.

Cox played in nine games last season for Atlanta, starting in five of them. He did not record a carry, but he did catch two passes for eight yards.

Prior to his time with the Falcons, Cox played three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. In both 2008 and 2009 with the Chiefs, the fullback played all 16 games. Cox scored his lone career touchdown in Week 17 of 2009 against the Denver Broncos.
