Xzavier Ward, a three-star Rivals OT from Colquitt County, has committed to joining the Georgia Bulldogs according to Chip Towers. Ward was reportedly offered a grayshirt deal at Georgia, which means he wouldn’t join the team until 2012. As a six-foot-seven, 255-pounder, Ward wasn’t exactly going to be seeing the field anytime soon anyway.
Rated as the state’s No. 31 player and the nation’s No. 42 offensive tackle, Ward also had offers from at least 14 other schools, including six SEC programs and Georgia Tech. He visited with Mississippi State last week and had a visit scheduled for this weekend with Auburn. Other schools reportedly in the running have included Louisville and Clemson.
Mark Richt may have his vision of what a Georgia dream team recruiting class would look like, but if it does not involve two players named Xzavier, how much of a dream is it really?
Ward wasn’t expected to commit this early, and especially not with a visit to Auburn still on the calendar.
