Tensions are mounting (ew!) between the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies over the Horns new ESPN network. Not that tensions aren’t pretty much always mounting (stop that!) between these two teams, schools, and fanbases, but A&M’s athletic director has pretty much accused his Austin neighbors of cheating.

Or setting up a way to very subtly cheat to great effect, at least. Aggies AD Bill Byrne thinks the network’s plans to televise Texas high school football games could constitute a recruiting violation. Texas already completely dominates Lone Star State recruiting, so how much more of an edge could they possibly get?

Still, this is one more reason to believe the Aggies are at least considering a search for a way out of the Big Presently 12 Or So, with the only logical landing place being the SEC. The benefits of accepting the call-up would be obvious — a chance to become something more than an object in Texas’ shadow, another recruiting pitch — and their reasons for staying are dwindling by the day.
