College Football Rankings, Week 7: Georgia, Florida Could Meet In Another Unranked Cocktail Party

Georgia's fourth consecutive win - a 20-12 road victory at division rival Tennessee where the Dawgs haven't won since 2005, no less - couldn't push UGA back into the AP Top 25 or the USA Today Coaches Poll. Georgia finished with 61 votes in the AP (good for a hypothetical 29th), and far down in the mix of the Coaches Poll with 15 votes.

Sunday marked the first time since 1982 that neither the Coaches Poll or the AP Top 25 ranked at least one of the "Big 3" Florida teams - Florida, Florida State and Miami. The Gators dropped out of both polls (formerly 17th in the AP, 18th in the Coaches) after being crushed by LSU 41-11. That makes 4-1 South Carolina (15th in the AP, 12th in the Coaches) the sole ranked SEC Eastern Division team.

Both the Gators and Bulldogs have a bye on October 22, one week before their annual meeting in Jacksonville, where last year both teams met unranked for the first time since 1979. Florida could jump back into the low 20s if they win this Saturday at Auburn, while Georgia will need to blowout Vanderbilt in Nashville and still get some help.

Meanwhile, if fans are hoping to see a consensus No. 1 vs. No. 2 "battle for the ages" when LSU and Alabama meet up November 5, Oklahoma will likely have to lose before then. The Sooners increased their hold on the top spot of the Coaches Poll with five more first place votes than last week after they destroyed rival Texas in the Red River Shootout.

The Tigers and Tide remain Nos. 1 and 2 in the AP Top 25, but Oklahoma has a 17 vote advantage over LSU for the top spot in the Coaches', followed by Bama. The Sooners are at Kansas, home for Texas Tech and travel to Kansas State before the November 5 game LSU/Alabama game in Tuscaloosa.
