SEC Championship Game 2011: Georgia Clinches East Title After Crippling Start

Stay connected for news and updates

Who woulda thunk the Georgia Bulldogs would peel off nine straight wins to take the SEC East title after dropping their first two of the year? No matter how ugly a win it was against the Kentucky Wildcats, Mark Richt's Dawgs have earned their first SEC Championship appearance since 2005.

The season started in the Georgia Dome, with a loss to the Boise St. Broncos, and will now include a second stop. The No. 1 LSU Tigers look like the likely foe, giving the Dawgs a chance to play national spoiler, but the Arkansas Razorbacks and Alabama Crimson Tide aren't out of the running just yet. LSU plays Arkansas to conclude the regular season, and a Hogs victory could mean BCS standings dictate UGA's opponent.

Not bad for a hot seat, huh?

The SEC title game is set for Dec. 3 in Atlanta.
