BCS Rankings Projections, Week 14: Only Georgia Can Stop An All-SEC BCS Title Game

Georgia is expected to stay at No. 13 in the latest BCS standings when they are released this evening. Georgia needs to beat LSU in the SEC title game to be able to go to a BCS game.

Nothing has changed over the past few weeks regarding the Georgia Bulldogs and their BCS chances. If they can upset the top ranked LSU Tigers next weekend in the SEC title game then Georgia is off to the Sugar Bowl. So their actual BCS ranking does not really matter since winning the SEC is the only way they are getting to a BCS bowl game. Georgia is expected to stay at the No. 13 spot again this week in the BCS standings. Georgia did get past the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets who were ranked No. 23, but no other teams ahead of them lost so there was not an opportunity to move up.

The all-SEC title game matchup is looking more and more likely as Alabama took care of business by defeating Auburn in the Iron Bowl to be maintain their No. 2 BCS ranking and then LSU defeated Arkansas on Saturday to go to the SEC title game and if they can get past Georgia there will be a rematch.

There is even the possible scenario that three SEC teams could reach a BCS bowl game and that happens if Georgia wins the SEC, but LSU only drops to the No. 2 spot with Alabama moving up to the No. 1 spot. The BCS made a rule in 2007 that if a conference has the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the final BCS standings, but neither are the conference champion the league guaranteed that their conference champion goes to a BCS bowl game.

Week 14 BCS Standings projections:

1. LSU
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma State
4. Virginia Tech
5. Stanford
6. Boise State
7. Houston
8. Arkansas
9. Oklahoma
10. Oregon
11. Kansas State
12. South Carolina
13. Georgia
14. Michigan State
15. Wisconsin
16. Michigan
17. Baylor
18. TCU
