Mark Richt, Texas A&M Rumors Segue Neatly Into Contract Extension Talk

And, yep, here we go. After a spate of rumors that the Texas A&M Aggies think they have a chance at drawing Georgia Bulldogs coach Mark Richt out of Athens, athletic director Greg McGarity says it's time to discuss a contract extension for Richt:

"Mark and I, we discussed for the first time today, moving forward," McGarity said Friday morning. "We've started that discussion, and I'm sure we'll talk further. We didn't have a lot of time today since he's got a huge (recruiting) weekend.

Many had presumed a contract extension would follow UGA's SEC East title run. Richt's name has been attached to a pair of other coaching searches, A&Ms' and Penn State's, both of which have seemed quite farfetched.

Richt has two years left on his current deal. He's currently the 10th highest-paid coach in the nation, making nearly $1 million more than Mike Sherman made in College Station.
