Cam Newton's Broad Jump At NFL Combine Workout Raises 40 Yard Dash Anticipation

Stay connected for news and updates

The most anticipated four-ish seconds of the 2011 NFL Combine are on the way, with Cam Newton set to run the 40-yard dash soon. He did just break out a 10-foot-six-inch broad jump, better than any 2010 quarterback was able to accomplish by eight inches and an entire foot better than the NFL Combine broad jumps of Vince Young or Tim Tebow.

On Newton’s first try, he went about 11 feet but couldn’t stick the landing.

Other mobile quarterbacks who’ve showed their wheels so far: Jake Locker ran a 4.52, Colin Kaepernick a 4.53, and Blaine Gabbert a 4.63. Did you get your bets in early on whether Newton could beat Tyrod Taylor? The Virginia Tech Hokies QB is expected to challenge for Locker’s high.

Before Newton started competing in today’s drills, Mike Mayock and Marshall Faulk debated whether he should be considered one of the top-five quarterbacks in this year’s draft. The argument eventually shifted to whether Newton is a viable consideration for the Carolina Panthers at No. 1.
