March Madness 2011 Bracket: ACC Gets Four, Clemson In, Virginia Tech Out Again

The 2011 NCAA Bracket is out, and the ACC got four teams in. Duke and North Carolina appear to have very tough draws for a potential run, while Clemson gets one of the new play-in games. Boston College and Virginia Tech are the two notable bubble teams from the ACC that missed out on a tournament bid.

Hokie fans will have plenty of reason to grumble after being left out yet again. But Tech fans, don't follow up a win over No. 1 Duke with losses to Boston College and Clemson and you won't be on the bubble to begin with.

West - No. 1 Duke vs. No. 16 Hampton, Friday March 18 (Charlotte, NC)

Congrats Duke, you win the ACC tournament and get a No. 1 seed. What is your reward? The Blue Devils are in the West Regional and will have to travel across the country for the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds. A tough road awaits them, as the potential Sweet 16 matchup would be against No. 4 Texas who many people expected to get a three seed. The Elite 8 game would be against either No. 3 UConn, who just won five games in five days to win the Big East, or No. 2 San Diego State, who would have a great advantage playing so near home.

East - No. 2 North Carolina vs. No. 15 Long Island University, Friday March 18 (Charlotte, NC)

North Carolina rides a strong end to the regular season and a run to the ACC Championship Game to a No. 2 seed. The Tar Heels get Long Island University in the first round and get to play close to home. They would have a potential second round game against the Georgia Bulldogs. Other notable teams in the East include overall No. 1 Ohio State, No. 3 Syracuse, SEC Champion No. 4 Kentucky, and No. 8 George Mason.

Tar Heel fans should head to Carolina March for more UNC coverage.

East Play-in Game - No. 12 Clemson vs. No. 12 UAB, Tuesday March 15 (Dayton, OH)

Clemson, under first-year coach Brad Brownell, is one of the last teams to earn a tournament bid and will face UAB Tuesday in Dayton, Ohio. If they win, they will then have a tough travel schedule and play against No. 5 West Virginia on Thursday in Tampa, Florida.

Clemson fans, go to Shakin' The Southland for all of your Tiger talk.

Southwest - No. 10 Florida State vs. No. 7 Texas A&M, Friday March 18 (Chicago, IL)

Texas A&M put together a 24-8 regular season record and finished third in the Big 12. The Aggies picked up wins over ranked teams Washington, Temple, Missouri, and Kansas State, but struggled against the two top teams in the conference in Kansas and Texas. If the Seminoles win, they would most likely face No. 2 Notre Dame of the Big East in the second round.
