2011 NFL Draft: Auburn's Cam Newton Goes First Overall To Carolina Panthers

Stay connected for news and updates

Surprising no one, Heisman Trophy winner and BCS National Champion Cam Newton of Auburn has been taken first overall by the Carolina Panthers, who are apparently willing to risk Newton’s potential blank slate knowledge of the pro offense.

Among the many storylines around Newton, it bears noting now that being embarrassed by Jon Gruden on national television has absolutely no measurable effect on your professional career.

The first round of the 2011 NFL Draft started at 8 p.m. (ET) on Thursday, April 28th, and SB Nation has everything you need to keep up with it: news, rumors, player profiles, scouting reports, the full NFL draft schedule, NFL mock drafts, draft projections and more.
