South Carolina Baseball Tops UConn In NCAA Super Regional Game 1

The South Carolina Gamecocks are now one win away from playing in the College World Series for their second-straight NCAA title, having downed the Connecticut Huskies 5-1 in the Columbia Super Regional opener. Michael Roth earned the win, throwing eight and one-third innings of six-hit ball without allowing an earned run.

UConn led 1-0 in the first inning and until the third thanks to Mike Nemeth scoring George Springer, but it was all Gamecocks from then on. Scott Wingo batted in Evan Marzilli in the third, Jake Williams scored on a wild pitch by starter Matt Barnes in the fourth and a three-run fifth featuring sloppy Huskies play all over the diamond was more than enough to seal the deal.

Carolina and UConn will next play Sunday night.
