Florida Baseball Survives Mississippi State, Earns College World Series Bid

Stay connected for news and updates

The Florida Gators advanced to the 2011 College World Series with a 8-6 win over the Mississippi St. Bulldogs in the Gainesville Super Regional. The series looked to be in hand after a Game 1 Florida blowout, but Missy State forced a Game 2 and held their own in Game 3 before coming up just short.

Nick Vickerson made a game of it in the seventh with a RBI single, following it with a steal of second and an eventual score thanks to Brent Brownlee. One Florida fan openly already hoped for Vickerson to be framed for dogfighting between the seventh and ninth inning, yet he is already a Bulldog. Preston Tucker countered in the bottom of the inning with a three-run shot of his own, deep over C.T. Bradford's head in center field.

Florida advances to their second-straight CWS, the seventh in program history, joining the Vanderbilt Commodores among SEC teams in Omaha.
