Brent Zwerneman of the the San Antonio Express-News and Houston Chronicle has quotes from Texas A&M president R. Bowen Loftin after the school's closed-door meetings about the Longhorn Network. Loftin said A&M hasn't been in contact with the SEC "in quite some time," but he understands why the conference's football prestige would allure many an Aggies fan.

Loftin "congratulated" the Texas Longhorns for developing an ESPN cash cow (Longhorn! cow!), but expressed concern about how it will be deployed in the future, stressing that the Big 12 is hoping to do something about the discord stirred up by the new media behemoth.

Presumably he was asked about the SEC there, and didn't just free-associate worries about the Texas network into SEC praise. But until issues between the Lone Star rivals are resolved (any day now!), the Southeastern Conference is going to linger as a subplot. Their spat may not ultimately affect the SEC at all, but it's worth keeping an eye on. It's July, anyway.
