Boise State AD To Be Fired Days After Georgia Game

There's nothing funny about a man losing his job, which is what's happening here, according to Brian Murphy of the Idaho Statesman, who reports "Boise State president Bob Kustra said he has decided to let go of athletic director Gene Bleymaier" after that Piccadilly circus (I don't know) of an NCAA investigation into the Boise St. Broncos various programs.

The date of termination is to be Sept. 8, or less than a week after the team's trip to Atlanta to play the Georgia Bulldogs.

Seems like weird timing, right?

In a statement, Kustra said:

I did not come to this decision lightly. After a careful management review and discussions about the future of the program, I determined that new leadership will be needed as we commit ourselves to the highest level of attention and enforcement of NCAA standards, and also continue to move Boise State athletics to the next level of success.

"Enforcement of NCAA standards," you say? Firing an athletic director over the pettiest investigation of the decade, which is saying something, could be mighty noble, I guess. And yet this makes that whole thing about Boise being able to win the SEC East even more misguided than it originally appeared, because what in the world are NCAA standards?

Still don't get the timing.
