Kenderius Whitehead, a defensive end at Atlanta's ML King High School, made a shocking commitment late Wednesday to the NC State Wolfpack over the in-state Georgia Bulldogs. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, this came after Georgia recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner met personally with Whitehead on Wednesday afternoon.
ML King head coach Mike Carson said that one big reason for Whitehead's commitment was that Georgia was recruiting him to potentially play as an outside linebacker, whereas Whitehead was only comfortable as a defensive end. The Wolfpack and Clemson had recruited him purely as a down lineman.
"I think that factored into it," Carson said. "He didn’t like the idea of playing outside linebacker and ‘in space.’ That was his concern with Georgia. In my opinion, he’s definitely a ‘hands-down guy’ [defensive end]."
