The Georgia Bulldogs picked up their 17th commitment for its 2012 class in Memphis defensive back Sheldon Dawson according to his high school coach Duron Sutton as reported by the Athens Banner Herald's Marc Weiszer.
"Sheldon is going to Georgia. That's what he told me. He didn't do anything big (to announce his decision)."
Dawson had also been recruited by Ole Miss as well as Cincinnati and Ohio State. According to Sutton, Dawson chose the Bulldogs because he would have a better opportunity to compete and win championships. Scout.com rates Dawson as the No. 147 overall prospect.
Dawson is the only defensive back commitment for Georgia in this class who lost Brandon Boykin who completed his eligibility this season. The Bulldogs are hoping that Dawson can bring some of the same kind of athleticism that Boykin brought with the ability to also make plays in the return game in addition to playing corner.
