Mark Richt, UGA Closing In On Contract Extension

The University of Georgia and its head football coach Mark Richt are reportedly closing in on a contract extension. The school's athletic board met on Wednesday and discussed Richt's potential deal in executive session. According to university president Michael Adams the two sides are "pretty close" on the new deal and only have minor details remaining to work out.

"We needed to tell the board where we were," Adams said. "It's an important matter. We believe in our football coach and we think he's going to be here a good while."

Its a great turn of events for Richt who was under fire at the start of the season after the Bulldogs suffered through a disappointing 2010 season and started 2011 campaign with losses to Boise State and South Carolina. However, Richt helped engineer a 10 game winning streak and two straight strong recruiting efforts has the optimism returning to Athens.
