The Mercer Bears are moving onto the next round of the CIT Tournament after their 64-59 win over the Georgia St. Panthers. Mercer was cruising through this game as they led Georgia State by 10 points at the half, but they had to hold off a late second half comeback attempt by Georgia State.
Georgia State fell behind as many as 13 points in the second half but they went on an 18-4 run to tie the game at 49 points apiece with 4:53 left, and it was a two-point game with 37 second left on a Brandon McGee three-point shot. Mercer was able to make their free throws the rest of the way while Georgia State missed all three of their three-point attempts in an effort to tie the game.
Mercer had three players who scored in double figures and were led by Justin Cecil who had 19 points.

President Barack Obama has filled out his NCAA Tournament bracket, as he does every year with ESPN's Andy Katz, and like most people, has the Kentucky Wildcats coming out of the South region to head to the Final Four.
A lot of the commander-in-chief's bracket picks are chalk, but Obama does have No. 3-seed Baylor taking out No. 2-seed Duke in the Elite Eight. The other upset the president is picking is the No. 12-seed Virginia Commonwealth Rams beating No. 5-seed Wichita State Shockers. VCU was the Cinderella team to make it to the Final Four last season, and Wichita State is a popular pick to do something similar in 2012. Obama also has the No. 10-seed Xavier Muskateers defeating the No. 7-seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
President Obama's Final Four picks are as follows:
No.1 Kentucky Wildcats vs. No. 2 Missouri Tigers
No.1 North Carolina Tar Heels vs. No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes

Savannah State finished the season with a 21-12 record and losing their last two games. The Tigers were the No. 1 seed in the Mid-Eastern Conference after claiming the regular season crown but was upset in the Conference Tournament by Hampton.

Over at the SB Nation NCAA basketball hub page, our staff has videos breaking down each region of the bracket for the NCAA Tournament. We're trying to help you out with your office pool so be sure to pay attention.
In the South region, the Kentucky Wildcats is the overwhelming favorite, Nick Fasulo points out in the video, but Wichita State can still be a tricky opponent and a surprise in the bracket.
"First thing you wanna do, put Kentucky in the Final Four and figure out everything else," Fasulo said. He also acknowledged basketball historians thirst for a Duke vs. Kentucky 20-year anniversary rematch of the Christian Laettner shot.
But Fasulo says UNLV could get past the Baylor Bears and Duke Blue Devils. Check out the video right here.

How many tournaments can there possibly be? Oh, we can keep going, y'all. For schools that didn't make it into the NCAA, NIT, or CBI, there's the midmajor-exclusive, pay-to-play CollegeInsider.com Tournament, which will include the Georgia St. Panthers and Mercer Bears this time around.
The Panthers will get Tennessee Tech in Round 1, while Mercer hosts Tennessee State. With Savannah State playing Tennessee in the NIT, maybe a couple of state governors should wager some lake water on the best-of-three. First-round games begin on March 13, with the title game on March 28. Games are scheduled to air on Fox College Sports, so check your local TV listings!
The full bracket will be out soon here.

The Kentucky Wildcats didn't win the SEC, but as has become recent tradition, they're being given the inside shot at the national title anyway. U mad, fans of every sport? UK was named the No. 1 overall seed and will get home region advantage in the South, where they'll start in Louisville and march toward Atlanta (easy now!).
Also joining them, among SEC teams: the Florida Gators are a 7 seed in the West (vs. the Virginia Cavaliers), the SEC champion Vanderbilt Commodores are a 5 seed in the East (vs. the Harvard Crimson ... pretty nerdy game!), and the Alabama Crimson Tide are a 9 seed in the Midwest (vs. Creighton).
That makes for four SEC teams, with the Mississippi Rebels just missing the cut.
Among pending SEC representatives, the Missouri Tigers were named a 2 seed in the West. Call it four and a half?

The North Carolina Tar Heels were named a 1 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, getting top honors in the Midwest Region. They did this despite losing their conference title game to the Florida St. Seminoles. UNC will get either Lamar or Vermont.
FSU showed up at a 3 seed in the East vs. the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. The Duke Blue Devils are a 2 seed in the South (vs. Lehigh), while the Virginia Cavaliers are a 10 seed in the West, where they'll get the Florida Gators. The N.C. State Wolfpack grabbed an 11 seed against SDSU in the Midwest.
That's five teams from the ACC, but the future ACC fared pretty well too.
If conference realignment were settled as of today, the ACC would've had two top seeds, as the Syracuse Orange reign over the East Region. The Big East regular season champs will open up in Pittsburgh -- the Panthers didn't make the cut.

The Georgia Dome in Atlanta will play host to the 2012 NCAA Tournament's South Region from March 22 through March 25. The winner of that Region will advance to the Final Four. As it stands, it looks to be Catlanta in a couple weeks, as the Kentucky Wildcats have earned the No. 1 seed overall and the top seed in the South. The other three Regional top seeds: the Michigan St. Spartans in the West, North Carolina Tar Heels in the Midwest, and Syracuse Orange in the East.

No. 2 Duke vs. No. 15 Lehigh
No. 3 Baylor vs. No. 14 South Dakota State

No Georgia teams will make it into the 2012 NCAA Tournament, unless 40 schools decide to fold their basketball programs within the next hour or so. Crazier things have happened. World War I, for instance. World War I makes the least sense of anything. You should read up on it!
However, the Peach State won't be shut out of national tournament basketball, as the Savannah St. Tigers, regular season MEAC champs, have already locked down a spot in the NIT. If they'd won the MEAC tournament, they'd be at the big dance, but at least Georgia has a representative in the middle dance, yes?
Other teams already in, via: Akron, Bucknell, Drexel, Iona, Middle Tennessee, Nevada, Oral Roberts, Stony Brook, UT-Arlington, and Valparaiso.
There's also the CBI tournament, for NIT snubs, and the CIT below that. It may go on forever.
Time: 9 p.m. Eastern, two hours after the NCAA Selection Show ends.

Kentucky looks to have all but locked up the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament while North Carolina can nail down a No. 1 seed with a win in the ACC Tournament final.

There won't be much of a local feel to the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday since no team from the state of Georgia will be capturing a bid to the tournament. Both Georgia and Georgia Tech suffered their way through tough seasons. The Yellow Jackets were knocked out of the first round of the ACC Tournament by Miami, and Georgia was bounced in the second round of the SEC Tournament.
Georgia State and Mercer had solid seasons in their respective conferences, and Georgia Southern improved over last season. Kennesaw State reminded Georgia and Georgia Tech fans in the state that yes things could be much worse. The state's best chance for a tournament team looked like it would be Savannah State, who earned the top seed in the MEAC Tournament but promptly was upset by eight seeded Hampton in the second round of the tournament.
However, Atlanta does get to host a regional, and the SEC and ACC could be represented by almost a dozen combined teams, according to Saturday's bracketology.
