Richard Samuel has jumped from tailback to linebacker and back to tailback again. Now that he's had a taste of both sides, the Georgia senior would love to blend the two.
Samuel has come out publicly to state that he wants the starting fullback job, a role that would likely be his if not for the offseason dismissal of Isaiah Crowell. While he's not penciled in as the starting tailback, it's something Mark Richt is considering despite his wishes to play the lead blocker.
"It's the closest thing to linebacker for me," said Samuel. "I mean I don't worry about the glory position. I just want to have a little contact and have fun."
Richt, the team's head coach, still believes Samuel could hold that role this season.
"I told him that continuing to get reps at fullback would not stop him from being a starting fullback," Richt said. "The beauty of him playing that position is he's in that meeting room with fullbacks and tailbacks."
