Georgia Vs. Kentucky: Ken Malcome makes most of playing time

Georgia backup running back Ken Malcome is trying to make the most out of his reduced workload

One bright spot to come out of Georgia's blowout loss to South Carolina last weekend was the hard-nosed running of tailback Ken Malcome, as the Athens Banner-Herald writes. Malcome gained a team-high 45 yards on 5 carries and scored the Bulldogs' only touchdown to prevent the team from being shut out for the first time since 1995.

Malcome said he was pleased with his own work, despite the loss:

"It was all right. We still lost. It would have felt better if we'd won, but they came out and beat us. From a personal standpoint, I thought I did pretty well with the opportunity I was given. It was OK, but we still lost, and I'm not OK with that."

Malcome has had ups and downs in his Georgia career. He started low on the depth chart as a redshirt freshman in 2011, eventually quitting the team at one point in September and drawing a one-game suspension. He later found himself in the starting lineup against Georgia Tech and in the Outback Bowl. He currently backs up freshman stars Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall, though still sees time as he did last weekend.

Whether or not his performance last weekend earns him more carries remains to be seen:

"I don't know (about additional opportunities)," he said. "I don't get too many chances on the field, but I always say to myself to go out there and do what I've got to do, and I feel I've done that the last couple of games, getting a couple of carries and taking advantage of my opportunities. Until the end of the season, I'm going to keep going."

Georgia is open this week before returning to action next weekend at Kentucky.
